Cotton
Cotton fiber is the most important fiber
and cottonseed product is the fourth largest grain product in the world.
Fibers, oil and animal feeds, and dozens of other industrial products can be
produced from cotton.
This
crop is grown in 60 countries, which accounts for about 2.5 percent of the
world's arable land, and the number of people employed in this industry is
about 350 million. According to the International Cotton Advisory Committee
during the years 2015-2016, the global cotton cultivation area was 30.5 million
hectares and its fiber production was 21.2 million tons. In the same time
period, 42 million tons of oilseed oil has also been produced.
In
the region, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Turkey are the most important cotton
producers. The cultivation of native cotton in the country has been more than
two thousand years old, but upland seed (American) was entered into Iran during
"Mashrotiyat". The first cotton cleaner factory was established in
Mazandaran in 1279 (Iranian calendar).
In order to minimize economic pressures by
relying on a resilient economy, decreasing dependency on cotton imports is
inevitable and to achieve this goal, determined strategies include paying
particular attention to water usage efficiency, increasing production
efficiency, develop second cultivation and reduce the costs.
Thus, executing the plan of increasing
self-dependency in cotton production Increase the self-healing coefficient of
cotton was put in the Ministry of Agriculture's Deputy Minister of Agriculture
programs, which its strategies are: improving water productivity, increasing
yield per unit area and reducing production costs. Improvement of methods in
the agriculture and refining sectors, development of the coefficient of
mechanization, conservation tillage, transplantation, technology transfer,
strengthening of specialized organizations and the establishment of subsidized
subsidies, research and education, and promotion of practical solutions for the
quantitative and qualitative improvement of cotton production.
By meeting the requirements and executing
the plan, by the end of the program, i.e. by the year 2021, the cultivation
area will increase by 20%, the yield by 29% and the self-sufficiency factor
will increase by 24%.
